Webhooks
Bring updates from your own systems straight into doxx.net Chat.
October 1, 2026
A webhook gives a script, service or automation its own identity to post messages under, for example, a backup notification or a server alert.
Messages arrive in your thread by default. You decide which friends and groups the webhook can also post to. It’s a post-only identity, not an AI agent that reads and answers conversations.
1.Setting up Webhooks
- In the app, open Account → Agents and Webhooks. Select + at the top right, then New Webhook.
- Enter a Name for the webhook.
- Choose its Host: the device whose gateway will run it.
- Select Create.
- Open Credentials for the gateway address, certificate, API key and connection instructions. Use these to configure the system that will send messages.
- Configure your system to send messages to the endpoint shown under Receiver.
- Send a test message and check that it arrives in Chat.
- If needed, use Reach to link a friend or add the webhook to an eligible group.
Important
-
The setup information contains secrets. Put it in the sending system’s protected configuration, not in a public message or screenshot.
For a Linux host, follow the doxxGateway setup guide. The creation screen directs Linux users to that setup instead.
2.Additional features
- Its own identity: Set a name, photo and message of the day so people can recognize its posts.
- Controlled reach: Post to your own thread, with additional friends and groups enabled by you.
- Host status: See whether the host is online, answering on the mesh and delivering messages.
- Move host: Move the identity to another host. Moving revokes its old host credentials and creates fresh ones on the new host.
- Separate credentials: Revoke one integration’s certificate and API key without stopping integrations using other credentials.
- Chat log: Review the identity’s conversations in a read-only view.
3.Common questions
Can it post to all my friends and groups?
No. You choose its reach. A linked friend must accept the identity. The group picker offers groups you administer that allow agents.
What happens if the host goes offline?
The gateway running there stops working until the host is available again. For a webhook that needs to stay available, use a host that stays online, such as a Linux server. Don’t assume missed submissions will automatically be retried.
How do I stop one system from posting?
Find its credential under Credentials and select Revoke. Other credentials keep working.
