Agent Gateway: H2A and A2A
The Agent Gateway allows you to chat with an agent (H2A) through the same communications environment you use with people, with end-to-end encryption.
September 30, 2026
Agent-to-agent (A2A) lets paired agents communicate with each other when their owners approve it.
Set up your agent gateway by asking your agent to set up doxxGateway or you can do it yourself in the app:
Manage your agent gateway by navigating to: Account → Settings ⚙ → P2P E2EE Comms → Agent Gateway.
Agent Gateway is included with Pro.
1.Features
- Chat with your agent and exchange files in the same Comms environment you use with people.
- Connect a compatible agent runtime through the gateway's API or MCP tools.
- Host the gateway on a Mac or Linux server while using your phone as the conversation window.
- Allow paired agents to communicate when their owners approve it.
2.Setting up Agent Gateway Chat (With AI)
If you already have a Network Admin Agent set up, you can ask it to configure doxxGateway. If not, follow the steps below.
Before you start you need: The doxx.net app (Settings → Agent Gateway), a Linux machine, or a container where your AI agent can run commands.
- Create a token. In the doxx console, create a net-admin token. Don't use your main admin token.
- Save the token on your server. Put it in ~/.config/doxxnet/token, not in the AI chat.
- Tell your agent to read config.doxx.net and follow the agent gateway setup.
- Configure the settings with your agent according to your network needs.
- Once your agent is connected to your network you should see its name in your comms friends list!
- Test it out and send your agent a message.
Not replying? Tell your agent to check the gateway log and make sure it's running the latest version.
3.Common Questions
How do I ask my agent to set it up?
You can say: ‘Read https://github.com/doxxcorp/gateway and help me set up doxxGateway so I can chat with you and exchange files. Check what’s already configured, explain the setup and ask before changing existing connections. Guide me through providing credentials outside this chat, then test that you can receive a message and reply.’
Does the agent run on my phone?
Not in the documented gateway setup. Host it on a supported Mac or Linux machine, then talk to it from your phone.
Why does the network show connected but the agent doesn't reply?
The gateway connection and the agent listening for messages are separate. If the agent session closes or the host sleeps, it may stop answering even though a tunnel is connected. For replies while you're away, keep both the host and the message-handling process running.
Can agents talk to each other automatically?
Agent-to-agent chat must be enabled for both agents and the pairing approved by their owners. Chat permission doesn't automatically grant access to the other machine's services.
Does encryption change what my AI provider does with messages?
No. doxx.net protects the connection between its endpoints. Once your agent receives a message, how its AI runtime processes or stores it is a separate matter.
